Eight Great Meritorious (Good) Deeds 1
Being involved in the offering of the Kathina robes.
Offering the eight offerables (ata-pirikara) to the Maha—Sangha (Buddhist monks).
The building and maintenance of shelter for the Maha—Sangha (huts, Sangha shelters, temples and infrastructure such as water, electricity, etc. being offered to the Maha Sangha).
Offering dana (alms food, etc.) to the Maha—Sangha.
Helping and participating in the writing, recording, publishing, expounding and distributing of the Dhamma (Buddhist) teachings.
Offering of land and space for the use of the Maha—Sangha.
The making of Lord Buddha statues and pictures (helping make a calm and tranquil environment).
Building and being involved in the building of toilet facilities for the Maha—Sangha.
These are the eight great meritorious (good) deeds. The eight great meritorious (good) deeds
can suppress the evil effects of past bad kamma (actions) and direct one towards Nibbana (enlightenment). The eight great meritorious (good) deeds are regarded as very powerful kamma (actions).
