President Mahinda Rajapaksa will attend the ceremony to deposit the Sacred Relics at the Sanda Hiru Seya, Anuradhapura on November 23, Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said.
“The Perahera conveying the Relics which will commence at Temple Trees and proceed to the Dalada Maligawa, Kandy on November 12 will then make its way to Anuradhapura the following day,” he said.
"The ceremony will be held with the participation of around 500,000 devotees and over 6,000 Bhikkus,” the Army Media Spokesman said.
“The Sanda Hiru Seya is being constructed in Anuradhapura near the southern entrance of the Sri Maha Bodhi, opposite the Sarananda Pirivena to commemorate War Heroes who liberated the country from the scourge of terrorism.”
“The Sanda Hirun Seya is being built by members of the Army with the support of the Navy, Air Force and Civil Defence Force,” he added.
The Seya is 285 feet in height and 255 feet in width. The construction of the Sanda Hiru Seya in appreciation of the services of the Armed Forces and the Police to defeat terrorism and bring peace to the country is being carried out on the directions of Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in Anuradapura.
According to sources, over 30 million bricks (16 x 8 x 2"), 9.5 million kilograms of lime, 50,000 Cubes of Granite (6" x 9"), 20,000 cubes ABC (Granite Powder), 130,000 bags of cement are estimated material requirements for the entire project.
